Law Enforcement Guidelines

    Last updated: 12 September 2026

These guidelines are for law enforcement, prosecutors and other government authorities seeking information about a WhatsLove account. They explain where to send a request, what legal process we require, what data we hold, and how we handle emergencies. They are provided for information only and are not a waiver of any legal right or objection, and not legal advice.

This page is not a channel for members of the public. If you are a user, report abuse in the app or write to info@whatslove.app. If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.

    1. Who operates WhatsLove

WhatsLove is operated by WhatsLove Founders Ltd. Requests are reviewed by our legal and safety function. Correspondence and requests should be in English or accompanied by an English translation.

    2. How to submit a request

    • Send requests to info@whatslove.app with the subject line "Law Enforcement Request".
    • Use an official government email domain and attach the signed legal process on official letterhead.
    • Include: requesting agency, officer name, badge or ID number, direct phone number, official email, case or reference number.
    • Identify the account precisely: registered email address, phone number, username or user ID. A first name or a screenshot alone is not enough to identify an account.
    • State the specific data sought and the exact date and time range, in UTC.
    • State the offence under investigation and why the data is necessary and proportionate.
    • Give a response deadline that allows a reasonable time for review.

    3. Legal process we require

We disclose data only where we are legally permitted or required to do so. The level of process required depends on the data requested and on the requesting country's law.

    • Basic subscriber information: a valid subpoena, court order, prosecutor's order or equivalent binding legal demand.
    • Non-content records, such as login IP addresses and timestamps: a court order or equivalent judicial authorisation.
    • Content, including messages, photos and voice recordings: a search warrant or equivalent judicial order issued on probable cause or the local equivalent standard.
    • Requests from outside the United Kingdom or the European Union are normally required to come through mutual legal assistance treaty (MLAT), letter rogatory, or another recognised cross-border channel, unless the requesting authority's process is directly enforceable against us.
    • We reject requests that are overly broad, vague, unauthenticated, or that appear to target lawful speech, journalism, activism, or a person's sexual orientation or gender identity.
    • We do not respond to informal requests over social media, phone calls or non-official email addresses.

    4. Data we may be able to disclose

We hold only what is necessary to run the service. Available data varies by account and how long ago the events occurred.

    • Subscriber information: account creation date, registered email address, phone number if verified, display name, date of birth as declared, country and language.
    • Verification records: whether voice or photo verification was completed and when, not the underlying biometric templates.
    • Activity records: login and logout timestamps with associated IP addresses, device type and app version.
    • Purchase records: transaction dates, amounts and payment processor reference. Full card numbers are never held by us; card data sits with our payment processor.
    • Moderation history: reports made or received, warnings, restrictions and account removals.
    • Content, where still present on our systems and where the correct legal process is provided: chat messages, voice notes, photos, and profile content.
    • We do not hold plaintext passwords, and we cannot recover them.
    • We do not have access to third-party services the user may have used off-platform, including WhatsApp or SMS content used by the safety SOS feature.

    5. Emergency requests

Where we receive a request in good faith involving an imminent risk of death or serious physical harm to a person, including credible threats of suicide, kidnapping, human trafficking, or violence against a child, we will review it immediately and may disclose the information reasonably necessary to prevent that harm.

    • Send to info@whatslove.app with the subject line "EMERGENCY DISCLOSURE REQUEST".
    • Describe the nature of the emergency, the person at risk, the specific harm feared, and why the data will help prevent it.
    • Include the account identifiers and the narrowest data set that will address the emergency.
    • Confirm you are an authorised officer and provide a direct contact number for verification.
    • Emergency disclosures are voluntary and made under our own assessment; they do not replace formal legal process for any wider investigation.

    6. Preservation requests

We will take reasonable steps to preserve existing account records for 90 days pending service of valid legal process, and will extend this once on formal written request. Preservation does not mean disclosure: data is held aside and released only against the required legal process.

    7. Child safety

WhatsLove is strictly 18+. We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse or exploitation. Suspected material and accounts are removed immediately and reported to the competent authorities and reporting bodies, with associated data preserved. Requests relating to child safety are prioritised.

    8. User notice and transparency

    • Our policy is to notify a user before disclosing their data, so they may seek to protect their rights, unless we are legally prohibited from doing so or where notice would create a risk to life, to a child, or to the integrity of an investigation.
    • Where a non-disclosure obligation is time-limited, we will normally notify the user after it expires.
    • We record the number and type of authority requests received and may publish this in aggregate form.
    • We may seek reimbursement of costs for responding to requests where the law allows.

    9. Contact
